Lahore is the second largest city in Pakistan, after Karachi and is the major historical cultural center of the Punjab province. Lahore is more liberal than most cities in Pakistan and is progressing rapidly in art, fashion, film, technology and education. It is also a major center for Qawwali music, popularized by one of the world’s best singers, the late Nusrat Fatih Ali Khan.
Lahore has had a turbulent history and was reigned by many empires that destroyed much of its stunning architecture and artwork, amongst which is the well known, Moghul empire in the 16th to 18th centuries. There are still many historical sites from the era that still stand. The architecture and artwork really make you wonder how phenomenally talented people must have been back then to create such beauty. Just the fact that the beautiful fountains in these sites pumped water without any electrical mechanism is in itself quite fascinating.
The city hosts a major portion of the tourist industry with breathtaking historical sites like the Badshahi Mosque, Wazir Khan Mosque, Shahi Qila (Fort), Shalimar Gardens and so much more! This metropolitan city has a great nightlife and lots of ronak (livelihood) and has now become the world’s top 50 most interesting cities to visit.
